The London School of Economics and Political Science has given permission to University College of Islamabad to teach Diploma in Economics from the University of London since 1996. The Diploma is intended to provide an opportunity to reach first-year undergraduate level both for the students who satisfy the normal entry requirements, and for the students who do not meet them, but can demonstrate that they have the ability, motivation and maturity to study at this level. In brief, it will enable students who have done FSc/FA, (with good command of English and Mathematics) to join the British BSc courses. Diploma students after its completion will be awarded a certificate by the University of London. The Diploma offers a great opportunity to FSc/FA, I. Com, ICS to join BSc course directly. After this the students may join the second year of the BSc at UCI or they can apply to universities in the UK, Canada or USA for their second year BSc. Students intending to transfer to another university should contact the respective academic institutions for further details.

Economics is a modern discipline which covers a variety of subjects. It is concerned not just with the description of the economic parameters, but also more importantly with the analysis of economic behaviour and policy. It provides an excellent foundation for a business career, and for academically motivated students who would like to enhance knowledge in this analytical social science. In addition to economics, the diploma students are required to study in detail other social sciences such as sociology or international relations as well.

Access Route

Access route is intended to make the BSc degrees accessible to students who do not satisfy the Degree Entrance Requirements. Students opting for the Access route will have to pass two full Foundation units. After passing the units they can transfer to the BSc course of their choice as External students.
