Law is central to the Society. Every community needs to regulate the rights and
duties of individuals, both to each other, and to the state and part of the fascination
of studying law is to examine the widely varying methods used in this process. A
law degree not only leads to a detailed knowledge of law and the legal system, but
it is also an opportunity to develop powers of analysis and reasoning. The raw material
of legal studies is the human activity in all its diverse forms that is why a wide
range of topics is covered. Not only this variety is an important foundation for
those intending to practice law, but also is a great advantage to students wishing
to pursue careers in government, commerce and industry, or in any managerial or
administrative fields.
A degree in law does not in itself qualify you to practice as a solicitor or barrister,
but it is usually a prerequisite for exemption from the academic stage of professional
legal training. The University of London offers two schemes for the LLB degree.
Scheme A (details in the course list) with minimum of three years of study. Scheme
B, intends to reduce the workload and which is done in four years. There is also
the graduate entry. Details for Scheme A, Scheme B and graduate entry are given
in the University of London External Programme, Laws Prospectus.
