Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE 1)

University College Islamabad (UCI) in collaboration with Spencer West Pakistan is offering Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE 1) preparatory classes at its campus in Islamabad. Spencer West Pakistan has certified, highly qualified and experienced trainers. This courses is being formally offered first time in Pakistan by UCI and Spencer West Pakistan.

The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE)?

The SQE is a prerequisite for the Law graduates that would like to practise in the Great Britian, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and Australia. SQE assessment is designed to assure consistent, high standards for all qualifying solicitors. It is administrated and regulated by Solicitors Regulatory Authority (SRA).

An SRA competence statement sets out what solicitors need to be able to do to perform the role effectively, and provides everyone with a clear indication of what to expect from a solicitor. This is what the SQE assessments test.

Many universities in England and Wales conduct the preparatory classes for SQE 1. It is intensive teaching and students are prepared for the assessment in the given below subjects of law. The preparatory classes will be conduct by the qualified and experienced trainers in class room environment including discussions and workshops. 

The SQE qualification

The SQE is split into two assessments – SQE1 and SQE2.

To qualify as a solicitor you will need to:

  • have a degree in any subject (or equivalent qualification or work experience)
  • pass both SQE assessments - SQE1 focuses on functioning legal knowledge and SQE2 on practical legal skills and knowledge
  • have two years' Qualifying Work Experience• have two years' Qualifying Work Experience
  • meet the SRA’s character and suitability requirements

SQE Exams

SQE 1 exams are held twice a year; January and July. There are four sessions of exams held in two days; two sessions per day. The exams are computer based.

Mr. Ishtiaq Chechi, Solicitor-Advocate (UK) and founding partner of Spencer West Pakistan is a qualified trainer of SQE and Arbitrator.

Assessment topics

The SQE includes two assessments: SQE1 and SQE2.

SQE1 tests functioning legal knowledge (FLK). The exam has two parts – FLK1 and FLK2.

SQE2 assesses practical legal skills. It also has two parts: oral assessments and written assessments.

Functioning Legal Knowledge

FLK includes the subject areas listed below. It is assessed by single best answer multiple choice questions over a two-day period. Ethics and Professional Conduct will be examined across FLK1 and FLK2.
